One of the biggest mysteries in the DC Universe, nay, the whole comic book history, might have just been solved – like in the latest issue of Flashpoint Beyond, that the Joker has a real name, seemingly Jack Oswald White. That’s right, assuming that it isn’t retconned by next week.

Anyone who has the smallest interest in comic books or movies based on comic books will know that the Joker’s origin is shrouded in mystery. Whether it’s Heath Ledger’s version with multiple different stories about how he got his scars or the unreliable narration of pretty much any iteration of the character in the comics, we don’t know very much about Joker’s origins, and we have so many versions of his name that it’s impossible to determine what’s true.

What a bad movie?

We could have all our definitive answer, however. As reported in the IGN issue 5, Flashpoint Beyond is a sequel to Flashpoint, with Martha Wayne, the Flashpoint universe’s version of the Joker, and Thomas Wayne, the much more brutal iteration of Batman in the Flashpoint universe, discussing who the Joker is.

Martha is revealing that she forced Psycho-Pirate, who was known for revealing every reality at once, to remember every idea and time that has had to have in the past that’s been fixed in the DC timeline; and to tell her everything he knew about the main DC timeline, that we’re all very familiar with. Through that interview, Psycho-Pirate revealed the Joker’s real name is Jack Oswald White.

After that bombshell, Martha reveals that she went by the Flashpoint version of Jack Oswald White and visited him for herself, for which she found a normal man, family man with a work at the Wayne Casino. Seeing the short shot of her in this issue, she looks like a pre-acid Joker, we’ve seen previously in previous origin stories.

Joker was once as often as the big screen, but is now one of the first time that it was made canonical in comics. With the DC knowledge, the story is likely to be quite interesting but will be totally untrue. We’ll all be shaking our heads at what reveals to be true.
